I have realized that having enough time is the something that will never happen to me. My time is always limited, sometimes I feel like screaming my lungs out, as if that would solve my problems. When you write down all the tasks that you should achieve by the end of the day, and assign time to them, you realize that there is not enough time to achieve all the tasks.
Show me a person who has enough time on their hands, never heard of one. Unless a person has no vision, purpose or focus, time will never be enough. We can all agree that every focused individual has limited time on their hands, juggling from one task to another, meeting deadlines, initiating processes, enjoying leisure, entertaining friends or making a decent meal. I find myself too busy for anything. As a trainer, author and student, I have not enough time to do anything. Therefore, mastering the art of time management has been a skill that has brought me immense daily achievements.
Let us dive into why Time management is important. Poor time management can lead to stress, burnout, missed deadlines, and a general feeling of being out of control. Conversely, mastering your time brings a wealth of benefits, just to mention a few:
Increased Productivity: When you know where your time is going, you can focus on the tasks that truly matter and eliminate timewasters.
Reduced Stress: A well-managed schedule reduces the anxiety of looming deadlines and forgotten commitments.
Improved Focus: By prioritizing tasks and minimizing distractions, you can concentrate better on the task at hand.
More Free Time: Paradoxically, managing your time effectively creates more free time for hobbies, relaxation, and personal pursuits.
Greater Goal Achievement: Time management skills are essential for breaking down large goals into manageable steps and staying on track.
Since I am writing this piece to help you manage your time wisely here are key strategies that you can use. I have tried them and they have come in handy:
- Set Clear Goals and Priorities:
Start by identifying your long-term goals. What do you want to achieve in the next year, five years, or even longer?
Break down these long-term goals into smaller, more manageable short-term goals.
Prioritize your tasks based on their importance and urgency. The Eisenhower Matrix (I can`t pronounce it either) -urgent/important, is a helpful tool for this. Focus on important, non-urgent tasks for long-term success.

- Plan Your Day (and Week):
Don’t just dive into your day without a plan. Take a few minutes each morning (or the night before) to create a to-do list.
Use a planner, calendar app, or other system to schedule appointments, deadlines, and important tasks.
Allocate specific time blocks for different activities. Be realistic about how long tasks will take.
- Use Time Management Techniques:
Pomodoro Technique: Work in focused 25-minute intervals, followed by a short break. This can improve concentration and prevent burnout.
Time Blocking: Dedicate specific blocks of time to specific tasks or activities.
Eat the Frog: Tackle the most challenging or unpleasant task first thing in the morning.
- Eliminate Distractions:
Identify your biggest timewasters (social media, email, unnecessary meetings).
Turn off notifications, close unnecessary browser tabs, and find a quiet workspace.
Communicate your need for focused time to colleagues and family members.
- Learn to Delegate:
Don’t try to do everything yourself. If possible, delegate tasks to others who can handle them effectively.
Delegation frees up your time to focus on higher-priority activities.
- Take Breaks and Practice Self-Care
I take this strategy very seriously. You can`t do anything when sick. Being sick is my greatest fear as burnout is a major enemy of productivity. Schedule regular breaks throughout the day to recharge.
Prioritize self-care activities like exercise, healthy eating, and spending time with loved ones (gosh I miss my mom)
- Review and Adjust:
Regularly review your time management system to see what’s working and what’s not.
Adjust your strategies as needed to optimize your schedule and improve your efficiency.
Tools and Resources:
- Calendar Apps: Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook Calendar, Apple Calendar
- To-Do List Apps: Todoist, Trello, Asana, Microsoft To Do
- Time Tracking Apps: Toggl Track, Clockify
- Focus Apps: Freedom, Forest
Time management is a crucial skill for success in all areas of life. By implementing these strategies and finding a system that works for you, you can take control of your schedule, reduce stress, and achieve your goals. Remember that time management is an ongoing process, so be patient with yourself, experiment with different techniques, and keep refining your approach until you find what works best. Start today and begin conquering your calendar!

I wish you all the best.
